Location: Washington, DC

Late yesterday, the Office of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced the award of a final grant totaling $17.2 million toward the construction of a new 39-bed nursing facility at the N.M. State Veterans' Home in Truth or Consequences. U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce released the following statement:

"This is very good news for New Mexico and a positive step toward increasing our capacity to care for New Mexico's elderly and disabled veteran population," said Pearce.

"As the primary nursing facility dedicated to serving our veterans and their families, the New Mexico state Veterans Home will benefit greatly from additional federal funding. The construction of a new 39-bed facility will help the Veterans Home to fulfill its noble mission of serving the healthcare needs of those who have selflessly served our nation."

"With this commitment of federal funding now in place, I will work with the VA and the State to ensure that the construction of this needed facility proceeds according to an effective, efficient and accountable timeline."
